As RSDO experienced education is a holistic and continues process of development and it makes a worthy contribution to people become responsible citizens. The education infrastructure badly affected in Afghanistan and deprived most of the citizens from education and the worst time was during Taliban regime when women were not given chance to learn education at all.
RSDO has been implementing various literacy and numeracy projects for pre-education women since it existed. We have implemented literacy projects in Rabat Sangee, Engil districts and center of Herat province through the support of different donors like, GAGP, NICCO, HELP, WFP and Afghan German Union. In addition to basic reading, writing and mathematics, we could also increase women’s awareness about their rights, responsibility, hygiene and other social ethic issues.
Our literacy program greatly contributed in improving women’s lives and made them responsible citizen and cooperative in their family and society. In fact, education opened their mind and expands their horizon. It enabled them to understand their duties as a citizen and encouraged them to follow the education for their life. Some of our literacy participants have greatly promoted and they got the membership of local Shuras. They have been involved in decision making process and greatly contributing in the development process of their community. Some of our literacy participants even joined the high school and they are proceeding well toward higher education.
We have received interesting case studies reflected in the report that literacy participants have promoted greatly and joined official schools after literacy course completed. They socially improved and their prestige among their peers and family members enhanced. Further, they increased self-confident and enabled to believe on their strength and relied on their own potencies.
