ABADEI (Area-based Approach for Development Emergency Initiatives) is a UNDP-funded project, that denotes communities being resilient and inspires hope for a better future in several local languages. UNDP, UN agencies, and non-governmental organizations are providing community-level solutions which complement the urgent humanitarian interventions across Afghanistan.
The initiative will channel funding into community activities, including:
- Providing grants to support small and micro businesses, especially those owned by women;
- Cash-for-work projects offering short-term income to the unemployed people, to restore local small infrastructure;
- Support people with disabilities, the elderly, and the most vulnerable, through temporary basic income.
A part of the ABADEI project is being implemented by AAH (Action Against Hunger) organization in partnership with RSDO (Razi Social Development organization) in Ghor and Daykundi provinces to support vulnerable people and communicate to help safeguard their livelihoods and facilitate sustainable income generation.
The ABADEI Project objectives are:

Income generation opportunities improved via vocational and technical skill development.
RSDO will implement the TVET activity both in Ghor and Daykundi to support women, youth, and vulnerable people and communities. The youth of the community will be selected according to specific selection criteria (most vulnerable, no technical skill, not involved in any income generation activity, etc.)
RSDO also provides small business, life skills, hygiene, and general education training for the beneficiaries to help them reach their full potential in establishing new small businesses for serving their community and country. At the end of the project, RSDO will distribute toolkits based on their vacations that has all the necessary equipment and tools to start their own small business. In addition, in the last months of the project, RSDO is going to conduct an exhibition to show all of the products of the beneficiaries to facilitate employment opportunities for the beneficiaries.
The project started on 01 July 2022 and will be finished on 31 March 2023, which will be implemented in 9 months for the beneficiaries. The vocational training will be provided for 350 direct beneficiaries (175 male and 175 female). The vocations are tailoring, motorbike repairing, mobile repairing, home appliance repairing, and carpet weaving in 14 vocational classes.
