Due to drought, COVID-19, collapse and security condition in Afghanistan, many people are displaced from their hometown internally, which caused them to face many difficulties and problems like lack of food and cash for daily life expenses. They left their hometowns and immigrated in other provinces of Afghanistan for a better life, because they felt that their families are in danger of poverty and famine. In this condition, RSDO in partnership with HELP organization from Germany held a project to help 1400 IDP HHs in Herat province by giving them a package of food that consists of (Wheat flour 60kg, Rice 29kg, Sugar 6kg, Salt 0.8kg, Oil 6liter, cotyledon 14kg) and 2592 AFN in cash.

Story of a 45-year-old man, Mohammad Eisa son of Ibrahim, whose feet are disabled, living in Se-Pulak Darb-Qandahar, Herat. He has six children (4 sons and 2 daughters). He is one of the IDP HHs who is internally displaced from Badghis province six months ago, according to the recent events in the country he suffered from this terrible situation and strived to change this condition.

He said, “It’s obvious that I escaped from my hometown because of war between the two fronts, drought and COVID-19, and finally I felt my family is not safe there in Badghis province. Based on these issues that there wasn’t any opportunity to feed my family, I decided to travel to Herat province and I believed that life’s facilities are more convenient in Herat province than in my hometown, Badghis. Unfortunately, while I moved into this province my life’s condition got even worse than previous; I decided to sell my kidney as well as my daughter’s kidney, because of hunger and lack of access to food. Eisa continued: “I did not have anything to give it for my children and wife, during the last months we had nothing to eat many days and nights; sometimes we borrowed some loaves of bread from our neighbors around to pass one more day alive”.

Eisa said, “That everybody in our area (Se-Pulak Darb-e-Qandahar) were talking about humanitarian assistance for vulnerable IDP households. After that, I went to the local governmental offices and shared my affliction situation lifestyle, and I talked about my struggles with the hardship of life; then a governmental organization guided me to make a petition/request and give it to headquarters of the province then they told me to stay in the waiting list to be surveyed. After two weeks RSDOs’ community mobilizers came to survey my home and my life situation, they asked me some questions to find me eligible for this aid that was food parcel and an amount of money as surveyors promised me before. After two weeks, there was a call from RSDO and asking me to come to the venue for receiving my ration card as well as COVID-19 orientation and package”.

Today, February 14, 2022, is the day for distribution; Mohammad Eisa is registering himself for the final phase of the emergency project to receive food parcel and a cash amount. He received the package from RSDO’s venue; now he is happy of receiving this opportunity and said, “This aid, food parcel and cash assistance can change my life; now I will buy some bottles of shoe polishes and new shoe brushes and will make a job and will overcome my life-expenses permanently.” He also said, “My family is waiting for the food package that would help me to cover my family expenses for at least six months”. RSDO is grateful to perform this mission of humanitarian assistance with the partner of HELP and ADH fund to the people of Afghanistan.
