The project, titled “Strengthening Social Cohesion in Afghanistan” was implemented by the Razi Social Development Organization, with financial support from Search for Common Ground organization. The six-month initiative started on September 1, 2023, and will be completed on January 31, 2024, which aimed to enhance social cohesion and promote Islamic brotherhood in Afghanistan.
Project Objectives:

  • Enhance social cohesion and promote Islamic brotherhood.
  • Identify and leverage local mechanisms to strengthen social cohesion among diverse social groups.

The project activities were carried out in the Injil district of Herat province. These activities included training educators to enhance their capacity in promoting social cohesion, monitoring capacity-building sessions which were conducted by the project MEAL officer, collaborating with educational organizations to transfer skills and knowledge to local communities, and engaging with local communities to promote participatory approaches.
The detailed program plan consisted of these key activities:
Participatory Training Programs: RSDO conducted 8 training sessions to enhance social cohesion, with the participation of 160 individuals (20 participants per session), focusing on various aspects of social cohesion.
Formation of Committees: Volunteer committees, consisting of 32 members in total, were established to promote social cohesion and resolve conflicts in their local area.
After the completion of the training sessions, professional mediators, equipped with enhanced mediation skills, were deployed to local communities. These skilled mediators actively engaged in conflict resolution within their target areas, contributing to a more peaceful environment. This innovative approach ensured that the acquired skills are directly applied to address conflicts at the grassroots level, fostering lasting social cohesion and peace within the community.
