Growing up in a small town, Fahima faced limited opportunities to pursue her interests in her lifetime. Despite this, she never let her circumstances define her and worked tirelessly to hone her skills and learn everything she could for a better future.
Fahima is 25 years old. She lives with her family in the village called Chardar Bala in Nili City, Daykundi province. Her father passed away 8 years ago. She lives in a family of 6 people. She lives with her mother and her 4 sisters. In addition, her older sister is mentally disordered so after her mother, she is responsible for the family.
She graduated from high school with good grades and started pursuing her dream of becoming a successful lawyer. She then started going to college until she graduated from the law faculty of a local institute of higher education. In a small period, she found a job opportunity and started working as a trainee in the law faculty for 6 months she was successful in her profession and her trainees were satisfied with her training.
Then the COVID-19 pandemic happened and the colleges and institutions were closed for several months and she was not able to teach in the law faculty during that period. After she passed the COVID-19 pandemic, the political transformation happened and the government collapsed, she had to leave them all behind and bury her dreams and ambitions in the ground.
Fahima had to stay at home for about 14 months, during which she suffered from financial difficulties and challenges until she found out that she developed depression and it was a dark period for her.
“It was about one year and two months that I was jobless; I had nothing to do except stay at home. My family had a very difficult time because we have no man in our family to provide for us,” says Fahima.
During this period, Fahima started attending the ABADEI vocational training classes in Nili VTC. She is learning to be a tailor. Fahima attends a female tailoring class every day for 4 hours. Besides tailoring, she is learning about small business, life skills, and general education to start a small business in the close future.
“I received training on female tailoring. I bought some fabric with my money and made dresses and I am making between 3500-4500 Afghanis (38-50 Dollars) per month on average,” says Fahima.
Fahima spent hours sketching designs, imagining herself as a successful fashion designer. However, as she grew older, she faced numerous obstacles that threatened to stand in the way of her dreams. Despite this, Sarah never lost her resolve and determination to turn her passion into a reality.
Her hard work paid off when she was finally able to start her own women tailoring small business. Despite facing numerous challenges, including limited resources and a tight budget, Sarah never lost her drive and was determined to make her business a success.Fahima is sewing her neighbor’s and relatives’ clothes and is paid pretty well. She wants to start her own tailoring shop, hire employees, and sell more clothes in the local bazaar and the neighboring cities.

A part of the ABADEI project is being implemented by AAH in partnership with RSDO in Ghor, Daykundi, and Badakhshan provinces to support vulnerable people and communicate to help safeguard their livelihoods and facilitate sustainable income generation.
RSDO established 4 vocational training centers (VTC) in Lal district and Feroz Koh city of Ghor province and Ashtarlay district and Nili city on the 1st of July, 2022 and the project will end on March 31st, 2023. This project is being implemented for 350 direct beneficiaries (175 females and 175 males) across all 4 VTCs. Besides all the training services AAH organization distributes 8400 Afghanis (93 Dollars) per month in cash assistance to start their own small business and 1650 Afghanis (19 Dollars) for their transportation fare. At the end of the project, every beneficiary is going to receive a toolkit that contains all the necessary equipment for them to establish their own small business in the future.
