On October 10, 2023, colleagues of RSDO and Emdad Cherity Foundation conducted an assessment of households affected by the recent earthquake in Herat province. This assessment was carried out in collaboration with the cluster and sectoral departments. Subsequently, a team from RSDO surveyed 90 vulnerable households among the families who had suffered casualties and injuries in the Zanadajan district of Herat. On October 11, 2023, the RSDO team commenced the distribution process of relief packages to these households. The packages included essential items such as flour, oil, green tea, sugar, washing materials, biscuits, plastic carpets, quilts, ewers, and toilet paper. Additionally, five water tankers with a capacity of 2000 liters each were provided to ensure access to clean water for the affected population. Furthermore, six solar-powered lighting systems were distributed along with the necessary equipment to alleviate darkness during nighttime activities that require water usage. Furthermore, recognizing the emotional needs of children affected by the earthquake, the RSDO team also distributed toys to provide temporary joy and alleviate some of the psychological distress caused by this natural disaster.
