Disability and extreme poverty are thought to be interdependent in Afghanistan, resulting from ignorance and long lasting war. Supporting people with disability is an important priority in a country such as Afghanistan where it is estimated that there are more than one million disabled persons living in terrible conditions.
People with disability are mostly discriminated and their basic right violated. The opportunity is not given to them to grow and live with dignity. Due to huge fund flow, the people with disability mostly ignored.
In order to socially protect people with disability RSDO has implemented a project on community mobilization on disability protection in Karokh, Enjil districts and center of Herat province. This project was financially supported by USAID through Counterpart International Organization. Through this project we encouraged people with disability to:
- Establish an associations and find support their disability supportive programs
- Encouraging them to set up literacy courses for promoting people with disability
- Participate in economic and social activities
- Advocate on their rights and responsibility influence on implementation of the policy and rule of laws for the sake of people with disability
- Convince government related agency to establish social security mechanism for supporting people with disability
We have targeted almost 500 participants in our project. Our project The project last for almost 5 months.
