A message from Dada Gol of the beneficiaries of Emergency Food Distribution Support Project in Kushki Robat Sangi district of Herat province, Afghanistan
Dada Gol is a widow who lost her husband in the conflict one year ago in Kushk Robat Sangee district. She is now the breadwinner of a 12 members family. To feed her children, she used to work as housemaid, cleaning the yards, washing cloths baking bread and taking care of the kids in the houses nearby to her home in Kushki Robat Sangee district. Although she was experiencing the harsh condition and hazardous event during her work, she was still happy to have job and earn some money to fulfil the needs of her family and feed her children. As the consequence of harsh work, she now suffers from backache and pain in leg. She says” I lost my job recently and I do not have any source of income to feed my children. Many households who were my employer left the districts. My children are hungry and ask for foods, but as a jobless widow I am wondering how to earn money to feed my children. I sold some of my assets and purchased foods, but now there is not any value asset to sell and purchase foods for my kids.
Dada Gol is suffering from an orthopedic illness from her back and her legs, but due to poverty, she cannot afford to pay the treatment expenses. In addition, she cannot pay the living expenses of a 12 members family, thus, she forced to send her children to work and earn money. She says “My daughters are young, and I forced to send them to work outside to earn money to fulfill the living expenses. I know that they must go to school, but since there is nothing at home to eat, I forced to send them work. In addition, there is not job opportunity for me anymore to earn money.
Dada Gol says, “one day, a team of RSDO staff came to our house and after talking to me and observing my house and life, they registered me as beneficiary to receive food granted by the people of Japan and they granted me a ration card. Although I have not received any food yet, I am very happy to be given the ration card and we wait to receive this humanitarian aid so that, our kitchen pots can be lit after a long time, and we can taste hot bread and delicious food”.
Dada Gol says, “As a mother and a widow who has to raise orphan children, I ask the people and the government of Japan to not forget the poor people who are suffering from poverty, war, and misery, and we hope that such aids continue in the future as well”.
