The Razi Social Development Organization (RSDO) is proud to officially launch two vital initiatives aimed at strengthening food security and building resilience for drought-affected communities in Badghis Province, with generous support from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Project Overview

  • Project Titles:
    • Emergency Food Security (ORSO/AFG/150/WBK)
    • Emergency Food Security (GCP/AFG/146/UK)
  • Implementing Organization: Razi Social Development Organization (RSDO)

Project Objectives

  • 150/WBK Project: Enhance food security by promoting resilience and supporting the commercialization of agricultural production systems.
  • 146/UK Project: Strengthen and diversify productive resources, introduce climate-smart agricultural practices, and rehabilitate irrigation infrastructure to build sustainable and resilient livelihoods.

Key Activities

Under 150/WBK Project (Total Beneficiaries: 7,175 Households)

  • 2,000 smallholder farming families to receive autumn wheat supplies and training (1,000 in 2025 and 1,000 in 2026). A portion will also receive organic fertilizers and composting kits.
  • 4,000 households to access certified wheat seeds through a voucher system (50% subsidized by FAO).
  • 475 smallholder households to benefit from summer crop seeds and training in 2026.
  • 700 families to receive backyard vegetable kits, with additional support for solar dryers (234 households) and micro poly greenhouses (70 households).
  • Establishment of drought Early Warning Systems (EWS) in local communities.

Under 146/UK Project (Total Beneficiaries: 800 Households)

  • 300 vulnerable farmers, including women and people with disabilities, to receive fodder seeds, fertilizers, and training.
  • 500 small-scale women farmers to receive milking kits and capacity-building support.
  • Formation of Common Interest Groups (CIGs) and Farmer Producer Groups (FPGs) to improve market access.
  • Establishment of Livestock Farmer Field Schools to strengthen farming skills.
  • Launch of community-based multi-hazard early warning systems.

Additional Support Activity

In addition to the above, RSDO will distribute animal fodder to 1,500 farmers in Moqor, Sangi Atash, and Aab Kamary districts by the end of October 2025, with FAO’s support. This distribution is not part of the current project’s Letter of Agreement but is provided as supportive assistance to farmers most affected by the ongoing drought.
