1. Women Empowerment

Strategy: Organizing and mobilizing women and youth groups for an empowerment process through community based activities and approach.

  • Projects: Women mobilization, income generation, formation of women forums and ’shuras’, awareness, capacity building and gender mainstreaming.
  • Educational Programs

Strategy: Ensuring protection and support of child rights; Collaboration with different government departments on education, rights and development issues, and capacity building.

  • Capacity Building – Line Ministries, Civil society, NGOs
  • Informal Education — establish children’s centers, literacy classes, awareness raising for women and children’s rights, vocational training,
  • Formal Education — basic education, establishment of formal school
  • Women’s Rights Protection and Promotion

Strategy: Mainstreaming gender relations through sensitization for reducing gender based violence and for ensuring gender equality and equity.

Activities: Networking /alliance building, media relations, women protection/shelters, legal referrals, awareness on rights, women rights campaigns, research, lobbying/ advocacy, legal referrals, role of media

  • Promoting Democracy and Peace Building

Strategy: Enhancing and expanding women’s participation in decision making in democratic structures and processes; conducting training in conflict management and peace building; Creating awareness about democracy for youth and women.

Activities: Awareness, formation of shuras, election campaigns, lobbying, rights, media campaigns,  strengthening democratic institutions, research, establishing forums, working with religious leaders and institutions, networking/alliance building with leaders.

  • Organizational Development Program:

Strategy: Instituting best practices for enhancing the organizations capacity to access and implement need-based activities aligned with RSDO mission and goals.

Activities:  Capacity building of staff, policy reviews, strengthening management system, review of vision/mission/code of conduct, appointing qualified and experienced staff for the right positions as per organogram, setting up staff motivation practices, Fund raising action plan (link with private sectors), appointing fund raising and marketing person.

  • Media and Communication

As an organization focusing on education, advocacy, and public awareness RSDO has close and ongoing interaction with local and international media.  It has its own media unit, which produces the thoughts for empowering civilization by the name of “Zamina” (means “in context”). RSDO is broadcasting activities such as advocacy and public awareness material about human rights in Afghanistan via local radio and TV networks, as well as through billboards displayed in strategic parts of the western provinces of Afghanistan.

  • Finance Management Capability

In the recent past RSDO has upgraded and improved its financial management capability by instituting clear and transparent documentation and reporting procedures.  RSDO is undertaking annual audits of all accounts by established and credible audit firms, in addition to facilitating other audits required by individual donors and partners.

  •  Monitoring and Evaluation

RSDO places great emphasis on transparency and accountability, and invests in regular monitoring of all aspects of its activities.  It has a small but dedicated M&E unit that reports directly to the Executive Director and the management team.  Regular field visits are undertaken to assess implementation of plans and ensure progress is made in the appropriate areas.  A combination of direct observation and document study is used for monitoring and reporting purposes. 

The internal audit officer checks information and documents coming from finance and logistics staff at the main office and in the provincial offices, provides feedback to them, and reports directly to the Executive Director.
