Agriculture is the main source of income and economy growth in Afghanistan. Effective supporting agriculture will definitely alleviate the poverty and improve the environment. This requires improving the access of farmers to agriculture facilities and improving their products. Agricultural growth has special powers in reducing poverty across Afghanistan where more than 85% of Afghans are engaging in agriculture occupation and earn their household expenditures through it. In addition, some of the people are indirectly receiving their household through marketing of the agriculture products. Further, agriculture is an effective engine for growth for most agriculture-based countries especially in Afghanistan. Because of suitable climate, mountainous region and plenty of water sources, a good condition for agriculture has provided.

Unfortunately, farmers and gardeners are poor and they do not have access to agriculture machineries and productive seeds and they are not aware of the gardening and farming new techniques. In addition, plant pests and disease damage on the farmer’s products. Even sometimes the farmers lose all of their products. On the other hand, the farmers use a lot of chemical drugs and fertilizer in their farms to increase their products. But instead they pollute the environment and reduce soil fertility.   Due to all these reasons, the farmers are not able to produce high and best quality of the products and most of them remain poor in the society.

Apart from that, Razi Social Development Organization (RSDO) through the financial supporting of people of Japan implemented the Community Development through Agriculture Activities Project in five targeted villages in Herat province. This project aimed at increasing productivity, raising farmer’s capacity and creating jobs opportunity for poor women through the agriculture activities.
